Hot Stone Massage
This class will introduce you to Hot Stone Massage and provide you with comprehensive information and the practical skills necessary to confidently give relaxing, therapeutic, safe treatments to your clients. You will learn about the use of stones throughout history, the types of stones used and where to find them. We will discuss the types of appliances best suited to heating the stones and the hygienic care of the stones and equipment.
In addition, indications and contraindications, thermo-therapy and benefits to the client AND therapist will be covered. Each student will be able to evaluate their client for contraindications to determine whether they are eligible to receive hot stone massage and or cold applications with the stones.

Hot Stone Massage and Lomi Lomi training may be arranged on a request basis, in my new home in Tillson New York, in Halifax and Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, in San Francisco, California and Uruguay, South America. Hawaiian Temple Style Lomi Lomi, also known as Kahuna Massage, was traditionally reserved for royalty and spiritual leaders. Lomi Lomi is characterized by long, fluid strokes using forearms and hands that integrate the whole body. You will learn how to massage a client on an oiled massage table so strokes can be done under and over the body simultaneously. The client is also gently stretched and joints are moved through their full range of motion. The massage is enhanced with traditional Hawaiian music, hula and chanting.
Lomi Lomi practitioners guide their clients to align mind, body and spirit and empower them to harmonize relationships with others using the tradition of Ho’oponopono. Clients are invited to envision changes they aspire to and to reflect on aspects of their lives that no longer serve them – this ceremonial massage helps them embody their intentions. The combination of the mesmerizing ebb and flow of the practitioner’s nurturing, integrative strokes and the client’s intentions for manifesting change facilitates transformative experiences, deep relaxation and inner peace. It is the perfect massage for rites of passage.
Instructor:
Pam O’Dea graduated from Sutherland-Chan in 1991. She specializes in blending her clinical experience with a nurturing, intuitive nature. Her teaching career began at The School of Shiatsu and Massage at California’s famous Harbin Hot Springs in 2002. She teaches hot stone massage and Temple Style Lomi Lomi to massage therapists, and has a keen interest in teaching lay people and children to massage one another as well. She created a 5-year pilot project in San Francisco at Thrive House’s After School Program teaching children Peer-to-Peer Massage, which results in them becoming more compassionate, empathetic, relaxed and grounded. Pam has lived and taught in Canada, the USA and Uruguay.
